Construction and maintenance projects are underway at several educational institutions in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Ecuador. Over a two-day visit to the province, Maximiliano Núñez Tomaselli, Zonal 4 Coordinator for Education, Sport, and Culture, inspected ongoing infrastructure work and participated in activities aimed at strengthening education and sports.
In La Concordia canton, Núñez Tomaselli visited the Antonio Alomía Llory Educational Unit in La Villegas parish. The school is undergoing comprehensive maintenance that will benefit 348 students. The project has a budget of over $145,000 and includes roof repairs, installation of rainwater drainage systems, ceramic work, painting and plastering of classrooms and restrooms, electrical maintenance, improvements to sports courts, and waterproofing.
During the visit, student Aruna Abadie Ramos from Antonio Alomía Llory said: “Very soon we will have safer and more comfortable classrooms for learning. These works motivate us to continue studying and to take care of our institution.”
In district 23D02 of Santo Domingo city, officials toured the Puerto Limón Educational Unit where infrastructure upgrades are expected to benefit 1,470 students. This intervention involves general maintenance across three buildings as well as new construction—nine classrooms, two restroom blocks, a rebuilt sports court, and playground equipment—with an investment totaling $619,916.
Fabián Rodríguez Loor, principal of Puerto Limón Educational Unit stated: “This intervention marks a before-and-after for our educational community. Today we offer dignified spaces that strengthen learning and the overall development of our students.”
As part of his agenda in La Concordia’s Sergio Núñez Educational Unit, Núñez Tomaselli attended an open house event focused on the virtual platform Laaha. This tool aims to prevent teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence through interactive educational activities.
Núñez Tomaselli also met with leaders from Instituto Superior Tecnológico Tsa’chila to coordinate joint actions supporting technical higher education in the province.
On the sports front, he held discussions with representatives from Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas Sports Federation along with local athletes. During this meeting they discussed a presidential announcement regarding a 25% increase in funding for sports organizations—a measure intended to support athlete training and development.
Núñez Tomaselli emphasized: “Our commitment is to be present in communities delivering projects that transform education while coordinating efforts in both education and sport to ensure better opportunities for children, youth and athletes throughout the province.”
The Ministry of Education reaffirms its dedication to improving educational infrastructure as well as promoting coordinated institutional efforts for holistic development among students and athletes in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas.
