The Bayushig Health Center in Penipe, Chimborazo, has undergone comprehensive maintenance, rehabilitation, and new equipment installation as part of the Ecuadorian government’s ongoing efforts to improve rural healthcare. The project was delivered through a partnership between the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) and the Decentralized Autonomous Government (GAD) of Penipe.
A total investment of USD 127,046 was allocated for this initiative. Of this amount, USD 60,575 was spent on infrastructure improvements and USD 66,470 on equipment and furniture. The project aims to benefit 1,126 residents in the area.
Stalin Andino, Vice Minister of Comprehensive Health Care, described the delivery as a milestone for Ecuador’s health system. “The gateway to the health system is precisely first-level establishments—spaces suitable for preventing diseases,” he said.
Fabián Aldaz, mayor of Penipe canton, highlighted the importance of inter-institutional cooperation agreements and their impact on local communities.
Community support has been strong throughout the process. Manuel Guanga, a user of the health center and spokesperson for Bayushig residents, stated: “I want to express our deep gratitude to President Daniel Noboa for his constant commitment to health. Knowing that older adults, pregnant women and children have your support gives us peace of mind.”
In 2025 alone, Bayushig’s health management saw significant progress in both preventive care and treatment services. The center provided 4,872 preventive consultations and attended to 3,433 cases involving illnesses. The HEARTS initiative was implemented to screen 472 adults for hypertension control. Additionally, ongoing care was provided for 67 people with disabilities as part of an inclusive healthcare model.
Government officials say these actions are part of a broader mission to bring quality public healthcare infrastructure closer to remote communities across Ecuador.
