The government of Ecuador has increased the surgical capacity of Hospital San Luis de Otavalo by investing USD 114,994.69 in a new C-arm medical imaging device. The Ministry of Public Health made this purchase as part of a national effort to improve hospital operations and ensure quality care for residents in Otavalo, nearby cantons, and throughout Imbabura province.

According to the Ministry, the advanced equipment provides real-time radiological images during surgeries. This allows for more precise visualization during procedures, increases patient safety, and improves surgical outcomes—especially in trauma-related operations.

Before the device was put into service, staff from radiology, traumatology, and nursing departments underwent specialized training to operate it safely and efficiently. The C-arm is now fully operational at the hospital.

Magdalena was the first patient to benefit from this technology during a total knee replacement surgery. She is reportedly recovering well following her procedure.

Daniel Quishpe, director of Hospital San Luis de Otavalo, said: “It represents a significant advance for our hospital because it allows us to perform safer, more precise, and timely surgeries. This investment reflects the commitment of the Ministry of Public Health to dignified, humane, and quality care for our community.”

The National Government states that through these efforts it continues to strengthen Ecuador’s public health network by incorporating modern technology and trained professionals with the aim of providing accessible care and promoting overall well-being among citizens.
