Sales in Ecuador increased by 10.6% in September compared to the same period in 2024, despite recent protests and attempts to disrupt economic activity. According to data from electronic receipts collected between September 1 and 27, sales reached USD 20.15 billion.
Pichincha and Guayas provinces continue to play a central role in the national economy. During the measured period, Pichincha reported sales of USD 7.59 billion, up by 8.6%, while Guayas recorded USD 6.77 billion, an increase of 7.2%. Combined, these two provinces accounted for over 71% of total national sales.
Other provinces showed significant growth earlier this year. From January to August 2025, Sucumbíos saw a rise in declared sales of 27.6%, followed by Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas at 26.2%, Zamora Chinchipe at 25.2%, Los Ríos at 18.6%, and Manabí at 15.7%. These figures indicate ongoing economic recovery and increased commercial activity across several regions.
Key sectors contributing to this positive trend include agriculture, commerce, manufacturing, and tourism, all showing marked improvement throughout the year.
“These figures reflect a positive trend in Ecuador’s economy and confirm that the country’s productive activity remains strong, sustained by the efforts of millions of citizens who are committed to stability, progress, and development,” stated Servicio de Rentas Internas (SRI).
