The Ecuadorian government, through the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture, has opened a new computer laboratory in El Oro province. The initiative aims to strengthen technical education and support over 6,000 students. Investments include USD 155,360 for infrastructure improvements and USD 198,072 for technological equipment.
Gilda Alcívar García, Minister of Education, Sport and Culture, attended the official handover at Unidad Educativa Libertador Simón Bolívar in Machala. She emphasized the role of technology in learning and digital inclusion.
“Today is a significant day. Under the leadership of President Daniel Noboa Azín, we are not only delivering computers, equipment and connectivity; we are delivering opportunities. We are handing over the keys to a new freedom: digital freedom and access to global knowledge,” said Alcívar García.
Student representative Jefferson Cedeño thanked authorities on behalf of his peers. He stressed the community’s commitment to responsibly use and care for the new laboratory facilities while recognizing education as essential for personal growth and national development.
As part of her visit to Machala, Minister Alcívar García also toured the Learning and Research Resource Center (CRAI) at Universidad Técnica de Machala. The government is investing USD 7.1 million in this project, which is currently 90% complete.
During discussions with university rector Jhonny Pérez, officials reaffirmed support for higher education with a focus on research and scientific production as well as efficient resource management in academic projects.
Alcívar García also met with local media outlets to share information about key policies being implemented by her ministry both in El Oro province and nationwide.
The government reiterated its ongoing commitment to strengthening technical and higher education as strategic pillars for productive development, innovation and progress throughout Ecuador—aiming to create more opportunities for children and young people.
