The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture in Ecuador announced on March 9 the start of enrollment for the Semi-Presential Education Modality. This program is aimed at young people, adults, and seniors who have not completed their basic or secondary education due to economic, family, or social reasons. The initiative expects to benefit around 80,000 people in the Costa-Galápagos region during the 2026-2027 academic year.
The program is designed so that students do not need to attend school regularly. Instead, it focuses on independent study with periodic in-person support from teachers. Applicants can enroll in literacy programs, post-literacy courses, upper basic general education (EGB Superior), science-track high school (Bachillerato opción Ciencias), or technical high school (Bachillerato Técnico).
Enrollment for literacy, post-literacy, EGB Superior, and science-track high school under an intensive schedule will take place from March 9 to March 27 for regular registration and from April 7 to April 27 for exceptional cases. The preparatory phase runs from March 30 to April 6, with classes starting on April 7. For non-intensive schedules in EGB Superior and both science or technical high school tracks, regular registration also runs from March 9 to March 27; exceptional registration extends until July 1.
Interested individuals are encouraged to visit juntos.educacion.gob.ec to review requirements and find the nearest educational institution offering programs for those with incomplete schooling. They may also visit their local education district office for information before presenting required documents at their chosen institution. The ministry emphasized that this educational service is free of charge.
Currently, this modality operates nationwide through more than one thousand institutions dedicated to serving those with incomplete schooling needs across all nine regional coordination zones. The government said these efforts reaffirm its commitment to educational inclusion and expanding opportunities so more people can resume their studies and improve their prospects.
