In Ecuador, multiple respiratory viruses are circulating, including various types of influenza (A/H1N1, A/H3N2, B), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and SARS-CoV-2. In response, the Ministry of Public Health is conducting a national influenza vaccination campaign led by Vice President María José Pinto.
The campaign aims to protect groups at higher risk such as young children, older adults, people with chronic diseases, and pregnant women. It will continue until March 2026 and includes 4.5 million vaccine doses.
According to health authorities, “the current vaccine against the influenza virus maintains levels of protection similar to previous seasons, especially for preventing severe cases and hospitalizations.” They also recommend regular handwashing and timely vaccination as preventive measures. “If you have flu-like symptoms, use a mask,” officials advise.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public health responses during the season when several respiratory viruses are present in the country.
