The Ecuadorian government, through the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society (MINTEL), has launched “EmpoderaTech Ecuador,” a program aimed at advancing the digital transformation of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), entrepreneurs, and other players in the country’s productive sector.
“EmpoderaTech Ecuador” is designed to strengthen digital skills, improve productivity, and open new markets by leveraging digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and e-commerce. The initiative aims to contribute to a more competitive, inclusive, and sustainable economy.
The program includes six strategic projects that coordinate public-private efforts across regions:
– The Digital Transformation Route supports MSMEs in their transition toward full digitalization.
– The National Digital Commerce Strategy 2030 encourages the adoption of information and communication technologies to boost competitiveness and sustainability while integrating economic actors into digital markets.
– Digital Entrepreneur focuses on enhancing digital capabilities for MSMEs, entrepreneurs, artisans, and members of the popular and solidarity economy with an emphasis on inclusion, gender equity, and practical innovation.
– Digital Economy involves developing policies and regulations to support the growth of the national digital economy and smart services.
– Data Lab seeks to improve data management as a driver for innovation, transparency, and competitiveness.
– Tech Brigades deliver itinerant programs on technological literacy and innovation across different territories.
According to MINTEL officials, this strategy will help build capacity nationwide by reducing the digital divide and supporting job creation as well as increased sales in Ecuador’s growing digital commerce sector.
At an event led by Roberto Kury Pesantes, Minister of Telecommunications and Information Society, officials presented the flagship project “Digital Transformation Route.” This project will guide companies from initial assessment through advanced adoption of digital tools such as marketing platforms, e-commerce solutions, data analytics systems, and applied artificial intelligence for business processes.
During the event in Guayaquil, Minister Kury Pesantes signed an agreement with Miguel Ángel González—the President of the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce—to implement this flagship project locally.
Minister Kury Pesantes stated: “With EmpoderaTech Ecuador, we are taking a firm step so that no entrepreneur or small business in our country is left behind. Digital transformation is not a privilege; it is an opportunity for everyone. This route will allow each business to progress according to its level of digital maturity with measurable real results.”
Miguel Ángel González added: “This agreement with the Ministry of Telecommunications opens new doors for MSMEs and entrepreneurs nationwide. In a world where digital transformation is crucial, Empoderatech Ecuador gives our businesses an opportunity to strengthen their competitiveness by improving access to technology while adapting to global market challenges.”
With this launch under President Daniel Noboa Azín’s administration, authorities reaffirmed their commitment to advancing Ecuador’s digitization process through policies promoting technological inclusion alongside economic development initiatives.
