Ecuador has joined the international operation “404,” an initiative aimed at combating digital piracy. The Internal Revenue Service (Servicio de Rentas Internas, SRI) took part in this global effort to block and dismantle websites, applications, and devices used for large-scale distribution of illegal content.
Operation “404” has been led by Brazil since 2019. It brings together coordinated actions from public and private organizations across several countries. As a result of these efforts, thousands of unauthorized streaming platforms have been blocked. The operation has also included raids and arrests to strengthen the fight against illicit digital commerce.
According to SRI, “This operation, led by Brazil since 2019, integrates coordinated actions between public and private organizations from various countries, achieving the blocking of thousands of irregular streaming platforms, as well as raids and arrests that strengthen the fight against illicit digital commerce.”
The participation of Ecuador through SRI demonstrates regional cooperation in addressing challenges related to digital piracy.
