The Ecuadorian government has invested over $5 million to modernize the Central 2 “El Cambio” Integrated Operations Center in Machala, El Oro province. The project aims to improve the continuity, quality, and efficiency of electricity service in southern Ecuador.
The Ministry of Environment and Energy carried out the work through the National Electricity Corporation (CNEL EP). The facility was upgraded over a period of 15 months on a site larger than three hectares. According to officials, this infrastructure is now considered a key part of regional technical and logistical operations for the electric system.
The new complex will centralize 40 operational crews, public lighting areas, administrative offices, crane and truck fleets, transformer laboratories, charging stations for electric vehicles, and supply warehouses. Authorities say these upgrades are expected to reduce response times during emergencies and improve working conditions for technical staff.
Government representatives stated that activating the El Cambio center will directly impact more than 100,000 residents in El Oro by improving electricity service continuity and quality. The center is also intended to strengthen emergency response capabilities as well as maintenance and expansion processes within the regional electrical system.
“This intervention is part of public policy efforts to strengthen the national electrical system,” officials said. “It is promoted by President Daniel Noboa’s administration with the goal of ensuring efficient, safe, and sustainable services for the population.”
