The Government of Ecuador has enhanced diagnostic capabilities at the Hospital Provincial General Docente de Riobamba by providing advanced medical equipment. This initiative, led by Vice President María José Pinto and coordinated through the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) in partnership with the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), aims to improve patient care for those requiring precise vascular studies and safer surgeries.
As part of a nationwide distribution effort over the past six months, 36 similar devices have been delivered to various hospitals, representing an investment exceeding $4.3 million. The new ‘C-arm’ device enables high-precision vascular diagnostics and surgeries at the Riobamba hospital.
With this technology, healthcare professionals can now perform image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures more efficiently. These include specialized arteriographies that use X-rays to assess blockages or abnormalities in blood vessels, aiding timely clinical decisions.
“Thanks to this technology delivered by the Government, we can observe arteries clearly in real time and make timely decisions that save lives,” said Adien Sabates, a vascular surgeon at the hospital.
Patients benefit from minimally invasive surgeries that allow faster recovery times and reduced surgical risks due to prompt diagnoses. Other advantages include real-time high-quality imaging during procedures, essential support for specialties such as traumatology, general surgery, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, and other surgical areas. The technology also facilitates less invasive interventions.
Citizens seeking these specialized studies should first visit their nearest health center for an initial evaluation; if necessary, they will be referred directly to the Hospital de Riobamba.
The government stated that these actions reaffirm its commitment to transforming public health services by prioritizing technological upgrades for safe and quality care across Ecuador.
