The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture announced on March 18 new steps to support teachers in Ecuador, including a sectorization process for the Costa – Galápagos region for the 2026–2027 school year and a new round of professional development courses through the Mecapacito platform.

These initiatives aim to enhance teachers’ working conditions and offer more opportunities for professional growth. The ministry said these actions are part of ongoing efforts to value the teaching profession and strengthen education quality across the country.

For the upcoming academic year, the ministry will carry out a sectorization process that will fill about 1,527 vacancies in schools within the Costa – Galápagos regime. This process is designed to relocate teachers with permanent appointments to schools closer to their personal and family needs. The goal is to improve their work environment while supporting educational processes.

Registration for sectorization will take place on March 18 and 19, with selected teachers starting at their new locations on April 1. To qualify, teachers must have worked two consecutive years at the same institution with a permanent appointment, have no administrative proceedings against them, and not be on service commission.

In addition, the ministry is launching Cohort 3 of its ongoing training program through Mecapacito, its official digital learning center. This cohort offers 75 courses across five areas: didactics, digital skills, subject knowledge, pedagogy, and socio-emotional learning. Registration runs from March 16 to March 29; courses will be held from April 1 to April 28. Interested teachers can sign up at https://mecapacito.educacion.gob.ec.

The ministry said these measures reaffirm its commitment to supporting teachers by improving their working conditions and providing continuous training opportunities.
