The Government of Ecuador, through the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, announced on March 24 the resumption of direct flights between Quito and Mexico City operated by Aeroméxico.
The restoration of this route is seen as a key step in strengthening air connectivity for Ecuador. The airline will operate four weekly flights using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The first flight arrived in Quito on the night of March 23, with the return to Mexico City taking place at 10:30 a.m. on March 24.
This renewed service provides a nonstop connection to Mexico and increases access to international destinations across North America, Europe, and Asia through an expanded network. Passengers can now connect to more than 40 destinations within Mexico, as well as routes to the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia.
Ramón Miró, president and general director of Quiport, said: “La reactivación de esta conexión es el resultado de un trabajo coordinado entre autoridades y la industria. Apostamos por un mercado aéreo más competitivo, eficiente y con mayores opciones para los usuarios.”
Pepe Zapata, vice president of sales for North America and Latin America at Aeroméxico added: “La conectividad aérea es también una herramienta de posicionamiento país. Esta ruta abre nuevas oportunidades para mostrar al Ecuador como un destino atractivo, diverso y competitivo en la región.”
According to officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT), reopening this route is part of a broader government strategy aimed at expanding air connectivity and supporting economic development through tourism. The ministry said it will continue working with airlines and international organizations to develop new routes and improve airport infrastructure.
