The Delsitanisagua Hydroelectric Plant has resumed operations after scheduled maintenance was completed, according to the Ecuadorian Electric Corporation (CELEC EP). The announcement was made by Inés Manzano, Minister of Environment and Energy, during a working visit in Loja province on February 10.
Maintenance activities over the weekend included the semi-annual servicing of Generation Unit No. 1 and quarterly maintenance with replacement of the Pelton-type runner in Unit No. 3. The replacement of this runner was described as one of the most significant tasks due to its essential role in hydraulic and energy performance.
Additional work involved servicing the turbine bearing in Unit No. 3 and conducting preventive maintenance on various auxiliary systems for both units. Specialized staff from the Center for Turbine Research and Repair (CIRT) inspected runners in Units 1 and 2.
Electrical, electronic, and instrumentation systems were also addressed to ensure proper operation of control, protection, and measurement systems at the plant. These efforts included inspections of main generator equipment and power transformers for Units 1 and 3, along with functional tests and comprehensive system checks.
After confirming operational stability across all parameters, Generation Units 1 and 3 were declared available for service. All units at Delsitanisagua are now active, delivering a total capacity of 180 megawatts.
“These actions are part of the technical planning for the electricity sector promoted by the Government of New Ecuador, aimed at preserving equipment integrity, ensuring availability for the National Interconnected System, and guaranteeing continuity, reliability, and safety of electric service nationwide,” said CELEC EP representatives.
