Construction of the new Lodana bridge in Manabí has surpassed 40% completion, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT). The bridge is part of the State Road Network E462B, linking Portoviejo and Santa Ana. The government views this project as a key element in improving transportation infrastructure within the province.
Work is currently focused on the main structure of the second bridge, where 17 primary supports have been installed. Assembly continues on beams that are integral to the overall structural system. These efforts are intended to ensure safety and stability for future users.
The plan includes building two parallel bridges, each measuring 35 meters long and 10.25 meters wide. This design aims to allow uninterrupted vehicle movement during a full renovation of the crossing. The first viaduct is already open for provisional use, keeping traffic flowing while construction advances on the second structure.
The project also covers one kilometer of access roads and additional technical features meant to enhance road safety along this important corridor between Portoviejo and Santa Ana. Officials say these upgrades will improve mobility and support regional integration.
Funding for the project exceeds USD 8 million, which covers supervision and land acquisition costs. The work is being carried out by Consorcio Lodana in partnership with the Committee for Reconstruction and Productive Reactivation of Manabí and Esmeraldas.
More than 50 direct jobs have been created as a result of this initiative, with indirect benefits reaching hundreds of local families through improved connectivity and economic activity.
The Ministry stated: “The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport thus reaffirms its commitment to Manabí by executing works that strengthen road safety, promote territorial development, and raise citizens’ quality of life.”
