The Central Thermoelectric Sacha, located in Orellana province, has enhanced its operations with new specialized technology in its chemical laboratory. The laboratory is managed by the Ecuadorian Electric Corporation (CELEC EP) through its Termopichincha business unit. This upgrade aims to improve the reliability of electricity generation systems in the Amazon region.
The laboratory now features advanced equipment for physical and chemical analysis of oils and fuels, adhering to current international standards. These tools are used with a preventive and predictive approach to identify early causes of potential failures in power generation processes.
Among the new devices is the FTIR Eraspec Oil analyzer, which is unique within CELEC EP. This instrument evaluates the physicochemical state of lubricating oil within minutes, detecting degradation, contamination, water presence, and loss of additives. According to CELEC EP, this analysis “avoids unnecessary oil changes and contributes to efficient maintenance management.”
The lab also uses an Eraflash device—exclusive to CELEC EP at a national level—which measures fuel flash point. This parameter is critical for ensuring safe storage, transport, and use of fuel as well as identifying possible adulterations.
Both pieces of equipment were acquired during President Daniel Noboa’s administration with an investment of USD 110,000. They complement an existing SVM 3001 viscometer that checks fuel and oil viscosity to prevent injection system blockages, premature wear, and mechanical failures.
CELEC EP reports that “the technological equipment is operated by specialized and certified technical personnel who have been specifically trained for its operation, interpretation of results, and application of procedures under updated international standards.” The corporation adds: “With this technology and specialized human talent, Central Thermoelectric Sacha also executes operational control for power plants located in eastern Ecuador,” providing ongoing technical support that strengthens regional electrical stability.
The government stated: “With these actions, the Government of El Nuevo Ecuador reaffirms its commitment to operational efficiency and continuous improvement by incorporating solutions that guarantee safe and sustainable electricity generation for all Ecuador.”
