In November 2025, the Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador (CELEC EP) carried out more than 100 scheduled maintenance operations on its generation equipment. These activities are part of the corporation’s Biennial Maintenance Plan and were coordinated with the National Electricity Operator (CENACE) and the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MAE). The initiative aligns with the Government of El Nuevo Ecuador’s strategy to recover and strengthen the national electricity system.
Maintenance actions took place across several regions. In Paute Molino (Azuay), work was performed on units 06 and 10. At Sopladora, located in Azuay and Morona Santiago, technicians replaced the shaft of turbine unit 02. The annual scheduled maintenance was also completed for unit 02 at Minas San Francisco (Azuay and El Oro).
At Villonaco wind power plant (Loja and Zamora), a semiannual maintenance was conducted on wind turbines. In Delsitanisagua (Zamora Chinchipe), staff replaced the runner in turbine-generator set 02 and inspected auxiliary systems.
Hydroelectric plants Agoyán, San Francisco, Pucará, Sarapullo, and Baba—located in Tungurahua; Santo Domingo de Los Tsáchilas; and Los Ríos—underwent inspections of their generation units and complementary systems.
In Coca Codo Sinclair hydroelectric plant (Napo and Sucumbíos), sediment accumulated at the water intake was washed out. Meanwhile, at Manduriacu hydroelectric plant (Pichincha and Imbabura), recovery efforts for Unit 01 continued with construction of a new intake screen.
Thermal plants receiving interventions included Santa Elena II & III, Manta II, Machala II, Esmeraldas II, Jivino III, Quevedo II, as well as Guangopolo Thermal Complex. Various actions were carried out on their generating units and related systems.
The report highlighted progress in restoring thermal power stations following government directives to accelerate repairs of previously unavailable equipment. The Trinitaria thermal plant in Guayas resumed operation after nine years with a capacity of 125 MW due to boiler repairs and operational improvements. Additionally, final repairs are underway for turbine 6FA-2 at Machala I thermal plant (El Oro). Components for this turbogenerator arrived from Houston after comprehensive refurbishment.
“From CELEC EP and following the guidelines of the National Government, we promote efficiency in the electricity sector by strengthening electric service delivery throughout the country,” stated CELEC EP.
