Marathon Sports released a review on Apr. 21 of the Brooks Glycerin Flex, a new running shoe model that combines high cushioning with increased flexibility. The review highlights how Brooks introduced the Glycerin Flex in early 2025, aiming to merge features of minimalist shoes with those of high stack height trainers.

The development is notable as most highly cushioned shoes tend to be stiffer, but the Glycerin Flex attempts to provide both protection and natural movement. According to Marathon Sports, “the one-of-a-kind Glycerin Flex was born” out of this design goal.

Key specifications include a stack height of 36 mm at the heel and 30 mm at the forefoot, a weight of about 9.1 ounces for men’s sizes and 8 ounces for women’s, and a midsole made from nitrogen-infused DNA Tuned foam. The shoe also features Midfoot FlexZone technology and podular forefoot design for enhanced movement throughout the gait cycle. The upper is constructed from breathable knit material containing over sixty percent recycled content.

In their hands-on testing, Marathon Sports staff said they could “bend it right in half with no difficulty,” confirming its flexible build despite substantial cushioning. They attribute much of this flexibility to unique flex grooves through the midfoot and forefoot areas. The segmented midsole aims to balance plushness in the heel with responsiveness in the forefoot.

The review points out that while traditional Brooks models offer consistent comfort, this new release stands apart due to its adaptability across different types of runs—from daily miles to speed sessions—while maintaining stability through its low drop (6 mm) and wide base geometry.

Some drawbacks are noted: runners preferring extra toe room may find the fit narrow as there is no wide-width option currently available; others seeking very soft landings might consider alternative models since “it doesn’t feel as luxurious and plush underfoot as some other high cushion shoes.”

Overall, Marathon Sports concludes that “the high stack of foam paired with the flexible midsole construction makes it a fantastic versatile choice that any type of runner…can enjoy.” They recommend personalized fittings for best results but regard this model as an innovative addition suitable for various skill levels.
