Asics has introduced two popular high-cushion running shoes aimed at different types of runners: the Gel-Kayano 32 and the Gel-Nimbus 27. Both models feature the brand’s GEL Technology for shock absorption and comfort, but they are designed with distinct support systems.

The Gel-Kayano 32 is targeted at runners who overpronate, offering stability to keep feet in an optimal position. It uses a 4D Guidance System, which cups the heel and provides built-up support along the sides to prevent excessive inward rolling of the foot. “The Kayano 32 gives you the benefits of effective stability features for overpronation while still offering a smooth and cushioned ride,” according to Marathon Sports.

On the other hand, the Gel-Nimbus 27 is intended for neutral runners who do not require additional stability features. The shoe focuses on providing comfort with a higher stack height and uses FF Blast Plus Eco foam in its midsole, allowing more cushioning underfoot.

Both models have similar weights—around 10.5 ounces for men’s versions—and share an 8mm heel-to-toe drop. However, their stack heights differ: the Nimbus 27 has a heel stack of 43.5 mm compared to Kayano’s 40 mm.

In terms of fit, both shoes use mesh uppers for breathability. The Kayano fits tighter around the foot for added support against overpronation, while the Nimbus offers a roomier feel especially in the midfoot and toe box.

Durability tests by Marathon Sports indicated that both shoes’ ASICSGRIP rubber outsoles provide reliable grip on wet or dry surfaces, with minimal wear observed after extended use.

Asics has made efforts toward sustainability in manufacturing these shoes. The company reported reducing CO2 emissions by nearly 30% from 2015 to 2023 and aims for further reductions by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. At least half of Kayano’s mesh upper comes from recycled polyester fabric; Nimbus’s midsole includes bio-based materials that lower its carbon footprint during production compared to industry averages.

Both models retail at $164.95 but are sometimes available at discounted prices online through retailers like Marathon Sports Inc., which also offers complimentary gait analysis in stores to help customers select suitable footwear based on individual needs.

“If you aren’t sure which shoes are right for you or want to check out models from other top brands, we’re here to assist at Marathon Sports,” states Marathon Sports Inc., highlighting their commitment to customer service both online and in-store.

For those interested in trying either model, Marathon Sports provides free shipping on orders above $74.95 as well as returns or exchanges within thirty days.
