The III Ibero-American Final of “Solo de Ciencia” took place in Quito, Ecuador, highlighting the country’s role in regional scientific outreach. The event was organized by the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture (MINEDEC) and brought together science communicators from Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Spain, and Peru.
Alicia Otero from Spain won the competition. The jury recognized her for the quality, creativity, and clarity with which she communicated complex scientific concepts.
Ecuador has hosted this event following its victories in 2023 and 2024 editions. Organizers stated that holding the final in Ecuador demonstrates President Daniel Noboa’s government’s commitment to promoting science as a driver of development and as a tool for public access to knowledge.
Daniela Sánchez, Undersecretary of Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer at MINEDEC said: “From this space, we want to reaffirm our total and permanent support for scientists, researchers and science communicators. With this action, we ensure that knowledge is established as a fundamental bridge between science and society.”
MINEDEC coordinated with higher education institutions to strengthen scientific communication during this edition. Rosa Capeáns, director of the Department of Scientific Culture and Innovation at Fecyt added: “Thanks to the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture for being home to the III Ibero-American Final of Solo de Ciencia 2025.”
The government emphasized its ongoing support for human talent development, research activities and international cooperation networks focused on advancing science and technology.
