The Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador (CELEC EP) has completed the annual scheduled maintenance of the Alazán Hydroelectric Plant, located in Cañar province. The maintenance was finished two days ahead of schedule. The Alazán plant has a capacity of 6.23 megawatts.
The maintenance included replacing generator radiators, testing electrical system equipment, cleaning the cooling water system, internal inspection of pipes and tunnels, cleaning the substation, and conducting a 3D scan of the Pelton-type runner. Technical support was provided by CELEC Hidroagoyán’s Center for Turbine Repair and Recovery (CIRT). This work is part of a maintenance plan submitted to the National Electricity Operator (CENACE).
A team composed of technicians specializing in electrical, mechanical, civil, and electronic areas from the Alazán and Mazar plants as well as CIRT carried out the activities.
Raúl Neira, head of the plant, said: “The maintenance concluded two days before scheduled thanks to the technical experience of our staff and institutional coordination.”
According to CELEC EP, these efforts ensure continued operation at Central Alazán and support government objectives that focus on efficiency, sustainability, and comprehensive upkeep of strategic power generation infrastructure.
