The adidas Supernova Rise 3 is the latest version in the brand’s line of neutral daily training shoes, offering several updates aimed at improving comfort and performance. First released in 2024, the third iteration features a re-engineered Dreamstrike+ midsole foam that provides a softer and more responsive ride compared to previous models.
According to Marathon Sports, the Supernova Rise 3 stands out for its versatility and affordability, retailing at $139.95 for both men’s and women’s versions. The shoe has an 8 mm heel-to-toe drop—down from 10 mm in its predecessor—and a stack height of 36/28 mm. Men’s sizes weigh 9.3 oz while women’s are slightly lighter at 8.4 oz.
A key update is the new Primeweave upper, which replaces traditional mesh with a soft, breathable material designed to offer flexibility and secure lockdown around the foot. Additional padding in the heel and tongue increases comfort for everyday use and longer runs.
Support rods have also been integrated into the Dreamstrike+ midsole foam, providing subtle stability without compromising on softness or ground feel. The Lighttraxion outsole offers improved grip and durability, especially on wet pavement or snowy conditions, although it may not be ideal for icy trails.
Marathon Sports’ review team conducted extensive testing on various terrains to evaluate these features. They noted that “the upgraded Dreamstrike+ foam is softer and bouncier without sacrificing any energy return or responsiveness,” making it suitable for a range of workouts. The team also highlighted that “the PRIMEWEAVE upper construction is soft, breathable, and flexible for maximum comfort on runs.”
However, they pointed out some drawbacks: “Responsive cushioning may feel too stiff for runners who prefer a more luxurious, plush ride,” and the fit tends to be snug through the midfoot and toe box.
For runners considering alternatives within adidas’s lineup or from other brands, Marathon Sports suggests options like the adidas Adizero Evo SL for those seeking a lighter shoe focused on speed or Altra’s Experience Flow 2 for runners preferring a lower drop with more room in the toe box.
The review concludes that “runners looking for an all-around, cost-efficient daily trainer that can do it all may not need to look much farther than the Supernova Rise 3.” For those interested in trying it out or needing help selecting running shoes tailored to their needs, Marathon Sports encourages visiting one of their stores where footwear experts use their Right Fit process to assist customers.
